Final Update

Hello! This marks my final blog post from this experience. It has been a wonderful eight weeks and I will miss so much about life in Ghana. I have grown so much as a teacher and as a person and I am so grateful for this opportunity.

I had an exciting final week. Last Saturday, I went to Shai Hills Nature Reserve. This was an area where the forest was preserved for animals and plants. There were many options of things that we could do there and we decided to attempt to hike to the highest accessible point. We drove part of the way up the hill and then hiked up the fairly steep hill. Despite only being about 8:30 am, it was already very warm outside and a challenging hike. However, the guide was right in that the view was totally worth it! Once we made it to the top, we got to sit and admire the beautiful view. It was a stunning perspective. I am attaching some photos throughout this post.

This week at school was fun! Students had exams on Monday so I helped to finish grading and writing student comments. Tuesday, we had an assembly and I continued to help grade. On Wednesday, students had all-school games which were fun to see! There was a Christmas performance on Thursday at the end of the school day which was one of my favorite parts of the week. I got to see my students perform with Christmas dances, singing, and other performances. On Friday, I said goodbye to my students and teachers and celebrated with a Christmas party in the school. The students and teachers signed a canvasboard and gave it to me to take home. It was a sad day but I made sure to express my gratitude for everyone's kindness throughout the experience.

As I sit here writing this, almost all of my possessions here are packed up and ready to go. I know that I have a long flight schedule ahead of me but I am looking forward to taking my new knowledge and experiences home with me even though it is hard to leave.

Once again, I am so grateful for everybody here who made my experience so great! Everyone was so welcoming and kind and I am going to miss this place and the people here immensely.
